about

Fluid ambient electronics, crispy and abstract basses, heartwarming field recordings and eery soundscapes infuse Brnjsmin‘s debut album on Verydeeprecords. Wind bei Nacht does an astonishing balancing act between dark bass music in London club manner and krauty toy synths hinting to the Weilheim Notwist universe. Flowery synthesizers alternate with digital voices and collapsing drum samples – and over and over: lots of gaps, silence, waiting, taking a breath. Is this the wind at night?

Giovanni Raabe alias Brnjsmin who formerly played drums in metal and hardcore bands, is now studying fine arts in Munich, recently played several concerts together with drone artist Black Annis and is interested in music on the border to sound art. »Thank you for your help and advice on making computer music« he writes in the liner notes. And indeed, the thirteen pieces transmit a certain naivety, which brings amazing twists to the music. A naivety and impartiality that never seems clumsy, instead creates a great creative freedom. Easily, the album navigates from its noisy lofi start over abstract soundscapes to almost danceable protohouse. A detuned piano, large organ rooms, waiting, silence, again. Hectic percussion patterns create their own calmness. Sometimes the pieces almost become short techno sketches, rest in loops, only to turn around again. Together they form a very own reflection on wind and night – and somehow they belong best in the living room at nighttime.
