We started this label seven years ago. First of all we released music from ourselves and from people around us. Old story, we know. In this spirit we also created samplers around Christmas since the beginning—like a musical postcard to friends and artists we like. Soon we thought it was a better idea, to wish a happy new year than to play the Xmas card game. On these samplers we gathered a variety of artists: people who inspired us throughout the year, people we always wanted to work with or people we met on tour—with whom a connection had grown. This is now our seventh sampler and our forty-sixth release. Wow, that's a lot! That means more music than one can listen to on a foggy winter weekend. And more tracks than can be celebrated in one club night—and we released plenty of suitable music for both.
After this weird and heavy year, we thought it would be a good idea to be nostalgic: We wish you a great new year with this classic best of collection. And at the same time we say fuck you to Daniel Ek, who thinks artists should just put out more content for the streaming services, then they could make a living out of it. And a fuck you to Bandcamp Friday madness, which is well meant but is about to drive our home and the idea of a cool digital music provider against the wall. So let’s recycle some content instead of generating new and take a bath in nostalgia! Happy new year.

Five slabs of minimalistic, motorik krautrock. The repetitiveness is key here. C2S feels like a sonic mantra, while C3A is more akin to an aural sculpture - the way the entire song morphs through different polyrhythms over a repetitive guitar motif is just incredible to listen to. This is my favourite zement release to date (2022). Its razor-sharp focus on propulsive krautrock is appreciated, all songs are bangers, and at 31 minutes, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. A perfect krautrock record. Smekermann
