Drummer Jakob Salz has become a solo artist by accident.
On "Forschung (2021)" he explores rhythms, feedback and interactions with spaces – based on an acoustic drum kit. The recordings were made in early 2021 with the idea of combining Salz's drumming with his work as a live sound engineer. He came up with a fragile setup of Mics and Amps he uses in spontaneous live sessions sometimes for drones, sometimes for motoric kraut beats. Combined With some synths and production work by Red On a mini album full of multi-layered noise clouds, acoustic club music drafts and long delay tails was created. Through all of this runs the vibe of contemporary jazz at the intersection of experimental electronics. FFO: Fazer Drums, Andrea Belfi, Valentina Magaletti, Zement

Five slabs of minimalistic, motorik krautrock. The repetitiveness is key here. C2S feels like a sonic mantra, while C3A is more akin to an aural sculpture - the way the entire song morphs through different polyrhythms over a repetitive guitar motif is just incredible to listen to.
This is my favourite zement release to date (2022). Its razor-sharp focus on propulsive krautrock is appreciated, all songs are bangers, and at 31 minutes, it doesn’t overstay its welcome. A perfect krautrock record. Smekermann
