about

It’s the electronic sound, the synthesizer that usually forms the foundation of Red On. And still: »Drums« does sound like nature somehow. Like a silky haze in the earliest hours or darkness taking over at night. Like weather or nocturnal skies. Like an accidental, organical process that follows a natural lead, barely influenced by human hand. Two acoustic drum sets, which were recorded simultaneously, do give the Longplayer its name. They are coexisting in a strange but harmonic way with the well known spherical sounds of Red On. Not affected by the driven, forward facing drums, the echoes, guitars and drones are filling the room as if they were wandering through magnetic fields.

»Drums« is a collective but heterogenous project in which all parts remain visible. Somehow the songs even seem to contain opposites: Pressure and affection. Warm and cold. Shelter, Loneliness. Freedom and lead. It seems auctorial – like a wide view over a town, a land or a couple of sceneries. A reminder that so many things are happening all at once. It’s because Philipp Dittmar created instrumental shells to let other artists interpret and fill them with their own free associations. Like a story which can be extended endlessly without coming to an end.
